Piarella Peralta holds a Master of Science degree in Social and Organizational Psychology from Leiden University. After losing her father in 2010 (he was only 47 when he passed on), she became involved in the international fight against cancer. Initially, as a volunteer for the Poás8 Foundation, a fundraiser for cancer patients in Costa Rica and since 2014 as a Patient Advocate for Inspire2live.
Piarella has taken part in many patient advocacy initiatives, also participating in numerous panels at international conferences and speaking engagements representing the voices of patients and their loved ones. These efforts are all aimed at redirecting the focus in healthcare back to its essence: The patient.
After an initial carrier as a coach, trainer and consultant in organizational development in the public and private sector, Piarella shifted her focus toward her passion in patient advocacy. She was appointed to lead the Diaceutics Precision Medicine Connective in 2018 to raise and empower patient voices to upscale the crucial role of diagnostics in their treatment journeys. In 2020 Piarella joined Diaceutics PLC more formally, to drive the Corporate Social Responsibility programs in the early and accurate diagnosis space and to lead the demonstration projects, which are proof of concept projects that speak to the different stakeholders in precision medicine to show that accelerating access to innovative treatments is the best approach for patients, as well as for healthcare systems.
Piarella is a hopeful and enthusiastic mother of two who believes we can do a lot better in healthcare when we join forces to eliminate the hurdles for the benefit of the patients.
