Dr. Alexander Lezhava is an Associate Director, Office of Strategic Alliances & Knowledge Management, Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) and a Senior Group Leader, Translational Research Group, Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS). He is also a program director of POLARIS (Personalised OMIC Lattice for Advanced Research and Improving Stratification), A*STAR, Singapore, October, 2016. The Translational Research Group mainly focus on molecular diagnostics to promote newly discovered bio-markers into tools for personalized patient care and is in line with POLARIS’ vision to translate local bio-marker discoveries into clinically-validated and implementable assays.
Since May 2020 Alexander Lezhava has been Director of COVID-19 clinical testing Stronghold Diagnostic Laboratory at A*STAR.
Before joining GIS, he worked in Singapore based company “Dx assays” as Research Director.
Dr. Lezhava graduated from Tbilisi State University (Faculty of Biology, Department of Genetics) and obtained his PhD degree in Japan at Hiroshima University (Faculty of Engineering, Department of Fermentation Technology). After obtaining of Doctors degree, Alexander Lezhava joined the Ohio State University as a post- doctoral fellow. Later he moved to Japan, where he worked as a Senior Scientist and then as a Unit Leader at Omics Science Center, RIKEN Yokohama Institute.
Alexander Lezhava’s research interests are in the fields of: Translational research, Molecular Diagnostics, Genomics technology development.
