Norbert Kreuzinger is an Assistant Professor at TU Vienna-Austria, Institute for Water Quality and Resources Management. His main research topics are linked to the effects of treated wastewaters on the aquatic environment considering chemistry and microbiology of surface waters and wastewater. Fate assessment, risk management and technology development for contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) related to wastewater and water reuse today are his key focus. Between 2018 and 2020 he was involved in the Water EU-JPI Knowledge Hub on Emerging Pollutants as scientific coordinator.
His scientific work is focusing on reuse aspects of treated wastewater and full-scale implementation of advanced wastewater treatment technologies for further removal of ECEs from municipal wastewater considering toxicological requirements. Besideс that, proliferation of antibiotic resistant bacteria and resistance genes and – only recently – wastewater epidemiological aspects connected to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic are topics of current research projects.
