Dr. Sara Giangiobbe was born in Campobasso, Italy on the 7th October 1987.
She obtained her medical degree at San Raffaele University in Milan with the grade 110/110 cum laude. She attended the residency program in Medical Genetics at the University of Milan and obtained the title of Medical Geneticist with the grade of 70/70 cum laude, after discussing a thesis on “Pedigree-based DNA sequencing pipeline for the identification of genetic predisposition markers in familial Hodgkin lymphoma”. While attending her residency, she trained in dysmorphology, rare diseases, preconceptional and prenatal genetic diagnosis and oncogenetics. After her residency, she attended a fellowship at the “German Cancer Research Center” in Heidelberg, working on the identification of cancer predisposing genes by performing whole exome sequencing in families with recurrence of specific tumor types. She then worked as an attending Medical Geneticist at “Santa Maria Nuova Hospital” in Reggio Emilia and “San Raffaele Hospital” in Milan.
Her current role is that of Genetic Counseling Manager at Eurofins Genoma Group in Milan.
Her range of interests varies from pediatric genetics and dysmorphology, rare diseases, prenatal and preconceptional genetic counseling and oncologic genetic counseling.
She is a member of the Italian Society of Human Genetics “SIGU” and author of different publications in national and international journals.
