Assoc. Professor Gibson Stephen Nyanhongo is a biotechnologist, currently leading the Biomaterial Technology research group in the Institute of Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Natural resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. He is the co-founder of Agrobiogel GmbH, a company that specializes in producing hydrogels for agriculture applications (to protect plants from drought, save irrigation water, store and slowly release fertilizers to plants). He has held many positions in academia including; senior lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences (2000 – 2006), Senior Scientist at Graz University of Technology (2006 – 2012), Professor and Head of Biotechnology Department at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (2015 -2016). His experience, skills and knowledge ranges from bioprocess engineering to developing biotechnological techniques for producing multifunctional biobased polymers. He has participated in over 25 national and international projects and published more than 80 peer-reviewed publications.
